Dale Jarrett Custom Pool Table Silent Auction Results

Sarasota Dispatch Supervisor Fran Bays places the winning bid in the UPS/United Way silent auction.

This summer, Longwood Automotive Mechanic John Conod designed and built a one-of-a-kind, autographed Dale Jarrett pool table.  He created this pool table with charity in mind, and presented UPS with the idea for a silent auction to benefit United Way.  The information about the pool table was posted on UPSers.com both locally and nationally and was marketed on John’s custom pool table web page.  The story was even posted on Dale Jarrett’s official fan club website.  Bids on the pool table came from as far as South Carolina, Texas, and California, but the 8-foot, hand-crafted table decorated just like Dale Jarrett’s NASCAR was auctioned to the highest bidder who happened to be Sarasota Supervisor Fran Bays.

This is the first pool table that Fran and her husband Rick have ever owned.  They are going to build a new house when she retires in January, and they plan to have a game room.  Both Fran and Rick started following NASCAR when UPS became an official sponsor of Dale Jarrett in 2001.  “We love the pool table,” says Fran.  “It is the only one like it in the world.”  Custom features include high-quality auto paint matching #88’s colors, custom leather pockets and felt featuring the car’s design and logo number.

John and his team set the pool table up at Fran and Rick’s home in Sarasota.  Three hours after arriving, John played the first game to make sure the table was calibrated properly.  “We see a niche in the home recreation market for people who want something more from their pool table than the classic billiards look,” said John. “Our billiards tables are more than just game tables; they are playable works of art that are as fun to look at as they are to play.”

The proceeds from the silent auction raised $6,750 to benefit the Heart of Florida United Way.
